Development opportunities
Follow-up review after 1.5 years
After you have been in your first job with SABIC for 1.5 years, a follow-up review report is created. This report discusses whether you and SABIC have lived up to each other's expectations. Also, agreements for the upcoming three to five years are laid down in this report. Your manager creates this report in consultation with you.
Development paths
After the follow-up review, you will enter one of the following processes:
- bachelor or master/PhD education: Management Development path
- bachelor education: career coaching path
- intermediate education (Dutch MBO): individual coaching
Integral Performance Management
Continuous process
SABIC coaches all its employees throughout their career on the basis of competencies. We use the Integral Performance Management (IPM) methodology to achieve this.
Objective
IPM aims to stimulate the development of our people, both personally and professionally. IPM applies to every employee in our organization.
IPM at a glance
- You will create your own annual IPM plan based on your competencies and in consultation with your manager.
- You agree on targets (personal competencies) and how you want to achieve them.
- You reach an agreement about the coaching and training you will need to achieve your targets.
- At the end of each year, we will assess the extent to which you have realized your targets and reach an agreement (targets) for the upcoming year.
- You will have interim progress interviews with your manager.
Assessment and reward
IPM is a continuous process and your annual assessment and (extra) reward depend on the results. Every employee attends a training to create his or her IPM plan. Your own initiative plays an important part in IPM.
Basic training
In addition to IPM training and coaching, new employees attend a number of basic training sessions:
- safety training
- introduction training to familiarize yourself with our company
- professional training depending on your job
Especially for beginners
As a beginner with SABIC, your manager will be your principal coach. You may also be assigned to a mentor.
Management Development
Management Development Program
The basis for personal development at SABIC lies in the IPM plan that every employee creates annually. Besides IPM, our Management Development (MD) program is a great help in steering your career in the right direction. It is intended for employees at the bachelor+ and master/PhD education level.
Instruments we use to execute the MD program:
- periodical career talks
- agreements about development of competencies
- training and planning of the next steps in your career
Succession planning
SABIC attaches great value to its MD program. We take agreements about subsequent career steps very seriously and base our succession planning on such arrangements. We believe in long-term relationships with our people.

Moving up
