Tarek Gonbour

Position: Business Controller Chemicals & Intermediates, since July 2003

Education: Industrial Engineering and Management Science , Eindhoven University of Technology

Why SABIC?

'I've always taken an interest in the petrochemical industry. I wanted to do something involving finance and replied to a vacancy of SABIC in the magazine "Intermediair". SABIC is about to expand considerably and I find that very appealing, there is a lot of work to do. The informal atmosphere is also very pleasant. Your contribution is valued and you can talk to anyone. Young people are given every opportunity to develop.'

Expectations

'When you start working for SABIC, you exchange expectations. After 18 months these are evaluated by means of interviews with your assessors, manager and the Recruitment department. Another 18 months later your career profile is prepared. I am currently studying to be a register controller. I work four days a week and study one day.'

Integral Performance Management (IPM)

'IPM is a tool for your personal development and is used by each employee. Each year, you formulate your objectives in your IPM plan.

You determine which activities you are going to undertake. Since we are in a dynamic business, these objectives often change during the course of the year. IPM is a handy tool which ensures that you remain focused on your personal development. And you can secure a very nice bonus of course.'

Adding value

'My personal expectations here at SABIC have certainly been met and even been exceeded. Through this starter position I really do add value to the company, it is a role with personal responsibilities. I also contribute to various projects in the financial field. Here at SABIC you can work in a multitude of disciplines offering many training opportunities.'

Not yet going abroad

'I would really like to work for SABIC abroad, but that is not on the agenda yet. Our company particularly aims at Europe and our sales offices there mainly work with local employees. Gaining experience in Saudi Arabia would not be a problem for me. I'd love to!'
