Company profile
SABIC Europe (Sittard, the Netherlands) is a subsidiary of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), based in Riyad, Saudi Arabia. SABIC is the Middle East's largest petrochemicals company and worldwide number-four player in polyolefins. In addition, SABIC is active in chemicals, fertilizers, and metals.
SABIC Europe is responsible for all SABIC activities in Europe. We produce and market a wide range of polymers (mainly polyethylene and polypropylene) and chemicals and intermediates.
SABIC Europe operates highly integrated sites in Europe that are complementary to SABIC's plants in Saudi Arabia. We sell over 2.6 million tons of polymers a year, mainly to customers in Europe.
Polyethylenes
We market over 2 million tons of HDPE, LDPE, and LLDPE in Europe. The product range is suitable for all major PE markets, with extrusion, blow molding, injection molding, and extrusion coating as the main processing techniques. Applications are flexible packaging, such as stretch film, shrink film, food packaging, carrier bags, and photo-coating, as well as rigid applications such as bottles and cans, pipes, sheets, crates and boxes, and dustbins. Around 1.3 million tons of the total volume marketed is produced in Europe. |

Polypropylenes
We market 1.2 million tons of polypropylene, as well as a wide range of compounds based on this polymer. Most of these materials are produced in our European production facilities. The product range is suitable for all major PP markets, with injection molding and extrusion as the most important processing techniques. Applications are flexible and rigid packaging, fibers, house wares and appliances, caps and closures, automotive parts (e.g. bumper systems), and pipes. |

Chemicals
SABIC Europe's two steam crackers at Geleen (the Netherlands) produce ethylene and propylene. Cracker co-products such as benzene, butadiene, MTBE, gasoline components, styrene, C9 resinfeeds, cracked distillate, and carbon black oil are produced in co-product upgrading units. The cracker products are key feedstock for derivatives such as PE, PP, styrene, CAN, PVC, glycols, rubber, and gasoline. Imports from Saudi Arabia consist primarily of glycols, methanol, and MTBE, which are used to produce other chemicals and polymers such as textile, PET, formaldehyde, and gasoline blends. We are a major importer of these three products into Western Europe and the second largest producer worldwide. |

Other
SABIC Europe also markets melamine, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyester and polystyrene, manufactured in Saudi Arabia. These polymers are used in applications such as components in paints, adhesives, and powders (melamine), wall covering, laminated fabrics, cell foam and pipes (PVC), fibers, yarns, bottles (polyester), building and roof insulation, and packaging for household appliances and containers (polystyrene). |
