SABIC launches conversion efficient polypropylene flowpact composite for European Thin Wall Packaging Industry

SITTARD, The Netherlands – October, 28th 2008 – SABIC is proud to announce a polypropylene product development breakthrough by introducing SABIC® PP FPC55 into the European Packaging market during the AMI Thin Wall Packaging 2008 event in Cologne from 28th till 30th October SABIC specially developed this innovative grade in response to the specific needs of today’s injection moulding market, requiring improved conversion efficiency and value for money.

The key issues the packaging industry is facing in today’s market are increased cost pressure driven by rising energy prices and a stagnating demand in a mature market. Improving conversion economics is therefore vital to the manufactures within the packaging industry. In response to this demand SABIC developed SABIC® PP FPC55; a new innovative product that offers a unique combination of faster moulding cycles with excellent flow behaviour and an exceptional balance of impact and stiffness, allowing for thinner wall options.

"As SABIC we are continuously searching to help our customers meet the challenges of the future. As result SABIC® PP FPC55 increases the moulding cycles up to 15%, a percentage that will have a significant impact on the manufacturing costs. Due to the unique rheology SABIC® PP FPC55 offers additionally the superior flow behaviour similar to 70MFI." says Diederik Goyvaerts, PP Technical Marketing Engineer for Packaging.

SABIC® PP FPC55 is designed to bring maximum value on high-speed equipment. This new grade shows exceptional flow and SABIC incorporates a state-of-the-art additive package that enhances the performance significantly. The increased crystallization speed enables short cooling times, which results in a more efficient conversion. Parts down gauging options also become a reality using the improved rigidity while the impact performance remains at a superior level.

This new grade is of special interest to the Thin Wall Packaging, Pails and Containers, Caps and Closures markets, where excellent flow and reduced cycle time are essential.
