Technology and Innovation
SABIC Technology Center – Geleen (The Netherlands)
SABIC’s Technology and Innovation (T&I) network consists of more than 1500 employees across 6 research- and 10 application centers around the world. In Europe, the SABIC Technology Center is based in Geleen (The Netherlands), employing approximately 90 employees.
The SABIC Technology Center in Geleen creates value for the company by developing and continuously improving processes and technologies, aiming to deliver the right products for SABIC current and future markets in Europe, in order to create a long term, sustainable business platform. T&I helps SABIC gain a vital competitive edge, both in servicing our customers and in assisting our production facilities to optimize product quality.
The T&I team focuses on product development in the following key areas of competence, namely: Polyolefin catalysis, polyolefin materials development, heterogeneous catalysis, applied organic chemistry, liquid crackers, conceptual process design and engineering, analytic chemistry and material testing.
We strive to innovate and to continuously acquire fresh competences in new products areas and, eventually, new technologies.
Global Application Technology Center – Bergen Op Zoom (The Netherlands)
SABIC’s strategic business unit, Innovative Plastics, has its main European office in Bergen Op Zoom (The Netherlands).
The Bergen op Zoom Global Application Technology Center (GApT), opened in 1978. The mission of the Global Application Technology Center is to support the growth of the Innovative Plastics product portfolio through advanced application and process development, and dedicated customer support around the world. The GApT invents, validates, and translates applications and processes. A virtual laboratory connects with SABIC’s application technology centers around the globe to share and translate knowledge worldwide.
Centres of Excellence – Bergen Op Zoom (The Netherlands)
Solar Energy: The Energy Center of Excellence in Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands) is an expansion of Innovative Plastics’ existing Fluid Engineering Center of Excellence and part of its Global Application Technology (GApT) organization. It aims to help customers use lightweight, high-performance thermoplastics to replace heavy and increasingly costly copper, aluminum, steel, and glass in thermal and photovoltaic solar panels. The center is equipped with leading edge design, molding, and testing equipment, and is staffed by engineers, materials scientists, and application development experts, to help customers utilize the latest in advanced thermoplastic technologies for the mass production of solar panels. Innovative Plastics’ goal is to be a major contributor in making solar energy for heating and electricity a practical and continuously more affordable options.
Fluid Engineering: Innovative Plastic’s Fluid Engineering Centre centralizes and use for its research the combined knowledge available within SABIC regarding the use of engineering plastics in fluid engineering applications. Using this knowledge, a team of experts tackles a major challenge facing the water industry: predicting endurance and mechanical strength retention of plastic components after extended use – typically 15 years or more. By developing plastics that address these challenges, SABIC aims to support customers with materials that are durable, cost-effective, light and therefore energy-efficient, resistant to corrosion, and lead-free
Auto Body Panels & Glazing: Innovative Plastics Automotive Glazing Centre of Excellence is aimed at helping customers around the world design, create, and process innovative auto glazing applications using SABIC’s environmentally progressive Lexan* GLX polycarbonate (PC) resins and other engineered materials. As one of the company’s Global Application Technology (GApT) centers, the Automotive Glazing Center of Excellence features equipment and technologies from Krauss Maffei and Summerer Technologies.
